Postdoctoral Associate: The Impacts of Green Courts in India

 

A 12-month postdoctoral position is available for an experienced interdisciplinary scholar interested in conducting research on environmental justice in India, with a focus on development
decisions affecting water resources.

The successful candidate will join an international project involving an interdisciplinary team of researchers from Canada and India, supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research
Council of Canada and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships Program.

The goal of the project is to understand the impacts of the decisions of Green Benches of state High Courts and regional National Green Tribunals on marginalized communities in Tamil
Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat.

Responsibilities:


·      
Analyzing legislation, public policies, court decisions, and reports from public interest organizations

·      
Fieldwork in India using observational techniques, semi-structured interviews, and other participatory appraisal methods

·      
Working in collaboration with Gujarat National Law University, the Foundation for Ecological Security and other project partners

·      
Supporting student
Research Assistants

Qualifications:

·      
Ph.D. in international development studies, environmental studies, human geography, law, or a related field

·      
Demonstrated experience with community-based research in India

·      
Good knowledge of qualitative data analysis software

·      
Track record of producing high-quality, peer-reviewed publications

·      
Ability and willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork in India
