Dr. Jorge Nef, Emeritus Professor, University of Guelph and CASID President 2007-08, died on December 10, 2016 in Toronto. Dr. Nef will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was an outstanding and influential teacher and researcher, a wonderful husband and loving father.
Dr. Nef was one of the founders of the International Development Studies (IDS) program at the University of Guelph and a champion of CASID work at home and abroad. He was a great promoter of CALACS (Canadian Association for Latin American and Caribbean Studies). He was also well respected academically in Chile.
Dr. Nef had a profound influence on, and is fondly remembered by his many students at the University of Guelph. He will continue to live through his wide-ranging intellectual legacy: The Politics of Human Security and Insecurity, The Politics of Development and Underdevelopment, Militarization and Terrorism in Latin America, and the Politics of Food Security.
