CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Saint Mary’s University (SMU), International Development Studies (IDS) Graduate Student Society invites you to present at the SMU-IDS Conference, Partners in Development—Building a Better Future through Collaboration.

The conference is aimed at providing a constructive platform to explore the changing face of development through the lens of partnership and collaboration. We welcome abstracts from graduate students, academics, policy makers, and practitioners in various disciplinary perspectives on the following sub themes:

  • Advocacy and governance

  • Education and health

  • Food security and sustainability

  • Micro-finance and social enterprise

  • Technology and innovation

  • Women and youth empowerment

Our world is increasingly interconnected, and therefore, no longer can we look at development issues in isolation from each other. Together we must reach across these divides and work as partners to build a better future.

Presentations must relate to one or more the conference sub themes and should highlight the role of partnering, or cooperating, as a central dynamic of the development process. Each presenter is allocated 30 minutes (20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for question and answer).

Guidelines

  • Applications must include: an abstract (a maximum of 350 words) and brief bio-sketch (a maximum of 200 words) submitted on the attached form.

  • Deadline for the submission of abstracts is 30 January 2012

  • Participants will be notified of their selection by 15 February 2012

All Submission/Questions should be sent to idsgradsociety@gmail.com
