2010 Call for Proposals

Thu, 09/17/2009 - 14:16 | casid

For the past three years, the Canadian Association for the Study of International Development (CASID) has invited its members across Canada to submit proposals to organize CASID-sponsored Regional Events focused on international development. The purpose of this initiative is threefold: to attract new members to CASID, to increase CASID’s profile in the region, and to promote the study of international development across Canada. Events should aim to bring faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and development practitioners together to share knowledge, research topics and experience in international development.  Accepted proposals will qualify for up to $3,000 of funding from CASID, to cover logistic costs and/or speaker fees.

Proposals should consider the following:

  • Events must be considered a CASID initiative and promote CASID’s profile
  • Events should include participants of more than one university in the region and have the involvement of both faculty and students. Where possible, development practitioners and policy makers should be included in the event
  • Events may be organized in partnership with other development organizations on a collaborative basis
  • A brief narrative and financial report will be required at the end of the event (further details will be given upon notice of CASID’s acceptance of your proposal).
  • Organizers will be required to distribute a survey developed by CASID to attendees at the event. The survey will be available both in hard copy and on the internet.
  • The proposal should be 2-4 pages long, indicating title, location, rationale, objectives, how the event will increase CASID’s profile and membership, partners involved, contact person responsible for the event, estimated audience and its estimated size, and a tentative budget.

Proposals will be assessed by a peer-review panel within CASID.  Notification of received proposals per region, peer-reviewing status, and accepted proposals will be available on the CASID website. CASID aims to support one event per region (Atlantic; Quebec; Ontario; Saskatchewan/Manitoba; and Alberta/BC) and encourages applications from universities that have not previously received a grant. The decision on funding will be made by December 15th, 2009.

This call for proposals is for events to take place between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010, including, but not limited to, those to be held during International Development Week in February. The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2009.

Please forward your applications by email to the CASID Secretariat:

Email: casid@nsi-ins.ca.

We look forward to receiving your application to organize a regional event to increase CASID’s profile and membership and promote the study of international development!

We would like to acknowledge IDRC for its financial support of CASID.
