Mission Statement
The Canadian Association for the Study of International Development (CASID) is a national, bilingual, interdisciplinary and pluralistic association devoted to the promotion of new knowledge in the broad field of international development.
CASID seeks to promote its mission by:

raising the profile of the Development Studies community within and outside of Canada;
-
holding an annual conference to discuss and debate development issues;

facilitating networking among students, academics, researchers, policy-makers and practitioners involved in international development, within and beyond Canada;
-
disseminating information on contemporary development research by publishing, in collaboration with the University of Ottawa, the Canadian Journal of Development Studies, a journal for development scholars and practitioners;

facilitating mutually beneficial relationships and meaningful cooperation between the academic community and development professionals, including policy-makers, civil society groups, and development NGOs;

broadening the reach of the Development Studies community by organizing joint events with key socio-political actors interested in promoting development understanding at different levels;

fostering active links with the media, especially with journalists focusing on development issues/challenges;

advancing academic research on development through the maintenance and enhancement of its relationship with such development agencies and grant councils as CIDA, IDRC, and SSHRC;

facilitating the emergence of new development researchers and practitioners through active interaction and cooperation with Development Studies and related programs in Canadian universities and colleges
