The Annual Conference
The Annual Conference is the premier event organized and administered by CASID. The event coincides with the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences' annual Congress of the Humanities, held at a different Canadian university every year. The Conference also serves as the annual general membership assembly, at which CASID members elect new members to the Executive Committee, make decisions on key issues facing the organization, and develop strategies to further enhance and promote IDS in Canada.
CASID Annual Conferences are large, multi-day events, typically with hundreds of participants, 10 - 15 panels per day, book launches, luncheons, a banquet, and special panels coordinated by CASID and other IDS organizations in Canada, including CIDA, Oxfam, the World Bank, and others. The Kari Polanyi-Levitt Prize is awarded during the Annual General Membership assembly.
The Annual Conference serves as an excellent opportunity for CASID members to share their research findings, participate in development-oriented workshops and seminars, network with IDS academics and practitioners from around the world, and to hear the keynote speech given each year by a prominent IDS scholar. CASID members are eligible to receive travel grants to get to the conference, regardless of whether they are presenting or just participating.
The Call-for-Papers for the Annual Conference typically goes out in the Fall, with the conference taking place the following Spring. Anyone is welcome to submit papers or proposals for panels to the CASID Conference Chair, the person who is principally responsible for organizing the conference. Visit the Annual Conference section of this website for updates and announcements of calls for papers, information on the Kari Polanyi-Levitt Competition, as well as past conference schedules and programs.
